Farewell to Patrick Pym, RORC Measurer who passed away on 4th December 2019
Patrick joined the RORC Rating Office Measurement Team as long ago as 1992.
Based in Hamble and just around the corner from HYS he quickly became one of our busiest Measurers. His work was mainly in CHS which then became IRC, but also he was a recognised Measurer for IMS. This meant early starts setting up two tri-pods, one with a dumpy level mounted on top and a theodolite on top of the other. He worked his way along the hull with a wand, recording sections which would ultimately “draw” an offset of the boat shape. This was often a 10 hour session without many breaks. Patrick’s focusing ability was perfect for the job.
In his 28 years working with us, Patrick has weighed and measured hundreds of boats for IRC. His methodical approach meant that he always submitted an accurate record for every boat. Job done! Thank you Patrick for your years of service.
