Dr Jason Smithwick

Director of the Rating Office

Jason joined the team as Director of the Rating Office in July 2017.

Jason’s background has always been in the technical area of sailing yachts: he graduated from the University of Southampton gaining a doctorate in Naval Architecture and continued working at the University, as a Principal Engineer & Software Manager at the world renowned Wolfson Unit, a marine and yacht based consultancy. The next stage in his career was in the role of Technical and Offshore Director at sailing’s international federation, known today as World Sailing.

Jason says it is cycling that ‘gets him out of bed in the morning’ and he puts the rest of the team to shame by always cycling to work, rain or shine!
