The Royal Ocean Racing Club has announced further cancellations and changes to some of its key events, including the IRC National Championships.
The RORC are considering moving the IRC Rating National Championships from its scheduled June timeslot to Friday 11th, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September. The potential move would see the IRC Nationals being run together with the IRC Double-Handed National Championship scheduled for the same weekend.
IRC Rating Director Dr Jason Smithwick commented: “This later schedule for the IRC Nationals could be a good result for the IRC fleet. A later schedule in September should allow the best chance of giving the national IRC fleet a top level event with sailing in good conditions.”
The RORC Rating Office team is working remotely and continuing to provide the excellent service expected from owners, clubs and the industry around the world. As all sailors are looking forward to when they’ll be able to get out on the water again after the imposed break, this is an ideal time to talk to your sailmaker, rigger or designer about any adjustments you could make to your boat and run an IRC trial to see the potential effect of the changes. Until 31st May the RORC Rating Office is cutting the cost of IRC trial certificates by 25% for boats holding a 2020 IRC certificate.
In line with normal IRC policy we will continue to have a limitation on how many trials may be requested in the certificate year; please check the published policy on the IRC website. Trial certificates allow current certificate holders to investigate the potential effects of data changes without affecting their valid rating; if you do not yet hold a 2020 IRC certificate you will need to revalidate it first, and this also provides you with the new rating as it may have changed with the 2020 software updates.
Trial process Please apply for your IRC ratings online through the MyIRC online portal at https://myirc.rorcrating.com. You will only get the option to apply for a trial if your boat holds a 2020 IRC certificate. For trial applications there is a two part process: when you submit the application the Rating Office receives the information in order to check and approve it before you pay. In the majority of cases trials are approved, but if is not for any reason we will let you know why. Once your trial is approved, you will receive an email asking you to log into MyIRC - the trial will show in your shopping basket ready for payment. The trial fee shown online will include the 25% discount.
