As of 25 November 2025, World Sailing has adopted an urgent rule change to the Offshore Special Regulations: a storm jib may no longer be flown together with any other sail in front of the mast.
The intent is to preserve the function of the storm jib as a dedicated heavy-weather sail, not a performance sail. For boats that previously used their OSR storm jib as a staysail or in combination with another sail, this may affect their declaration of the number of headsails carried for IRC Rating.
